There are places in the Known World where darkness is a solid thing, where the barriers between the light and dark are thinned, where the Shadowfell creeps through. Common Folk who spend time near these places can become infected with dark energies and give birth to Shadow Children.
They are known by many names from the Darklings of Denebre to the enigmatic YinYing of Màoxiǎn but regardless of what they are called it’s clear that they’ve been infused with darkness itself.
Like all Planetouched they exhibit physical traits that can be difficult to hide like pale flesh and otherworldly darkness for eyes. They are both feared and respected among the Common Folk of every nation for their uncanny ability to reach nearly anywhere and find out nearly anything.
While Shadow Children don’t actively avoid the light, their abilities are somewhat less effective when there are no convenient shadows around. This makes them agents of choice for the Denebrian Inquisition who operate under cover of night whenever possible.
Shadow Children are available as an option for new characters with DM permission. Any of the races of the Common Folk can give birth to a Shadow Child. Cosmetically they look similar to their parents though they tend to be thin, pale, and have pure black eyes. They use the traits listed below instead of the traits of their parent race.
